My story of how I came
upon the need to build World Extremities.
I am an amputee skydiver. July of 2004, a friend of
mine Jason Snailham from the UK approached me with a
question asking if I had a spare leg. (I am an amputee
from a motorcycle accident when I was 14.) When
inquiring why he asks, the answer I received touched me
deeply. Here is what his response was:
"I teach a military parachute course in
Cambodia. Last March while in Cambodia, my heart went
out to the people and what I witnessed there. You would
not believe the amount of people missing limbs due to
mines left over the many years. Poverty controls the
country. Prosthetics is as gold and they just can't
afford them. Please, if you have a spare leg, may I
take it with me in October when I return?"
Instantly, my own
heart was convicted to do something more than one leg.
I had two! I also had connections and the very next
day, I began making phone calls and sending e-mails.
Within a week, I had over 100 and within two months, I
raised close to 300 limbs. Since last year, I have
raised thousands of prosthetics, orthotics and parts.
The response of
people, amputees and others wanting to lend a hand in
one way or another has been warming and touched my
spirit in a way that lead me to opening greater
possibilities.
Throughout this short and rewarding journey, I have met
wonderful people including: Dave Barr of the Dave Barr
Foundation. Dave had both his legs blown off by a
mine. Dave has his own plans to go to Cambodia to lift
mines, make a documentary and raise awareness to others
who can contribute to the costs of lifting these mines.
How brave is that! Paul Wolfowitz President of World
Bank working to cleanup the mines, Dana Bowman double
amputee motivational speaker. Dana lost his legs during
a mid air collision during a skydiving demo with the US
Army Golden Knights, Dana pushed to stay in the service
and his drive to lead a normal life and inspire others
has been successful and remarkable.

Cambodia has the
highest amputee rate in the world. Although, My heart
and soul is in this now and I don't foresee myself
stopping anytime soon. There are many countries with
people in need. I want to be there! I want to help! I
need your help to accomplish this.
